كان المقاليع الآشوريون "راشقي الحجارة"، وكانوا يستخدمون أحجارًا مختلفة على شكل كمثرى يربطونها بأحزمة جلدية أو بحبال. كانوا يدخلون المعركة مع رماة القوس والرمّاحين. يمكن للمقلاع الجيد إلقاء حجر مسافة كبيرة بدقة مذهلة.

Assyrian slingers were "stone-throwers", they would use various pear-shaped stones and sling them with leather straps or slings. They would enter battle with the archers and the spearmen. A good slinger could throw a stone a significant distance with amazing accuracy.
